Garmin Aviation Stack

Garmin Avionics Stack

The Garmin Avionics stack consists of a Garmin GPS, Garmin SL40 Radio and the Garmin GTX Mode S Transponder.

Garmin 496 GPS
The Garmin 496 builds on the popularity of the Garmin 296 and 196 with its easy to use menu structures along with an enhanced display (9.65cm) 320 x 480 pixels, 256 colour sunlight readable TFT. Garmin 496 features a built-in Jeppesen database. Using this information, the 496 displays your flight route over contour terrain mapping. The higher-resolution terrain database includes over ten times as much data as the 296's for even more visual reference. With information, the 496 monitors your current position in relation to surrounding terrain to provide alerts. Even customize your own minimum clearance levels to receive terrain cautions. The addition of private airports and heliports to the database provides even more navigation and emergency "nearest" options.

Garmin 328 Mode S Transponder
Designed exclusively for Europe, the Garmin 328 satisfies the European requirement for a Mode S solution that meets the reduced certification requirements for the VFR Mode S mandate. GTX 328 is intended to serve VFR/Class 2 aircraft where there is adequate size and power consumption support for a Garmin 328 unit and is a straightforward retrofit. The Garmin GTX 328 includes features such as displaying outside air temperature, altitude monitoring, count up and count down timers (using a built-in digitized voice annunciator to alert the pilot when preset altitude limits have been exceeded or timer expiration), density altitude functions and front-panel input for flight ID.

Garmin SL40 Radio
The all-purpose, high-performance SL40 is packed with innovative features not found on competitive units. In its space-saving 1.3 x 6.25-inch design, SL40 incorporates pilot-friendly features such as active and standby flip-flop frequency tuning, direct sunlight-readable alphanumeric display, easy access to National Weather Service broadcasts, a two-place intercom and more. With 8 watts of transmit power and only 35-watt DC input, the SL40 is cool and efficient. No external fans or cooling equipment are required. It also operates on 10 to 32-volt inputs without the need or expense of a separate voltage converter. The SL40's frequency-monitoring function gives you the ability to monitor ATIS or the 121.5 emergency frequency without leaving your assigned ATC channel. This allows you to listen to standby frequencies while giving priority to the active channel, meaning you'll never miss a transmission.
