The base has a 1.0" diameter rubber ball designed to sit at right angles to the mounting rail. The zinc coated metal u-bolt and nuts included will fit a circular rail with diameter from 0.5" to 1.25". To mount the rail base, place the top of the base on the rail and then slide the u-bolt around the rail, into the holes in the base top. Now tighten the screws onto the u-bolt until the base is clamped firmly. If you desire, you can now slot the black composite covers over the exposed ends of the u-bolt. The male 1/4" long, 1/4"-20 thread in the middle of the 2.5" diameter plate will connect to the standard female thread found at the bottom of most still and video cameras.
- Material: Powder Coated Marine Grade Aluminium
- Ball Size: 1" Rubber Ball "B" Size
- Components: RAM-B-201, RAM-B-231Z, RAM-B-202A
TIP: If your handlebars are 1", larger than 1", tapered, fatties, 28mm tapering down to 25mm, this is the mount to use. Use the u-bolt bracket on the bars, which is included in the mount kit on this page: The cast bracket accepts 1" and 1.25" u-bolts and both are supplied in the kit. Also included is a black plastic shim that sits inside the u-bolt for attaching to rail above 1/2" diameter. If you wish to purchase the u-bolt base mount separately the part number is RAM-B-231Z.
TIP: The RAM-B-149Z-C1 is the simplest answer to mounting a camera on a bike but remember that solid state memory will be fine but cameras that have moving memory like a Microdrive, can suffer from vibration. So add a foam layer between the camera and round base support, another useful tip, is to make it from an old mouse mat!
